Project Overview
The Drawing Room was commissioned to design two new-build homes in the Cobo area of Guernsey. With a site offering just enough width for a pair of semi-detached cottages, the project aimed to blend the architectural heritage of traditional Guernsey cottages with contemporary design elements.
Client’s Vision
The client envisioned homes that delivered modern living with a focus on high thermal performance, energy efficiency, and adaptable layouts. The goal was to create two homes that were not only visually appealing but also functional, adaptable for future needs, and environmentally conscious. Key components of their vision included:
- Open-plan ground floor layout and a cozy snug for more intimate settings.
- West-facing private gardens, designed to maximise afternoon and evening sunlight.
Key Architectural Features
To bring the client’s vision to life, we focused on:
- Light-filled interiors: Expansive windows and careful orientation of the homes ensure ample natural light flows throughout the living spaces.
- A fusion of traditional and contemporary materials: The exterior incorporates elements such as reclaimed Guernsey granite, paired with modern materials like sleek glass and cladding to create a balanced aesthetic.
- Sustainability and performance: High-quality insulation and efficient building methods were employed to ensure the homes meet modern energy standards, providing comfort for the occupants year-round.
Project Status
The development has recently been completed, with both homes now standing as prime examples of how thoughtful design can respect local heritage.
