Refurbishing Guernsey Counselling Service’s new premises

The inaugural project delivered by Build for Good — a not-for-profit collaboration between The Drawing Room and Rihoy & Son — focused on transforming the new premises of Guernsey Counselling Service (GCS) in St Peter Port. The project aimed to create a welcoming, purpose-designed space that supports GCS’s mission to provide professional counselling services to all, regardless of ability to pay.

Key Architectural Features:

Three private counselling rooms designed for comfort and confidentiality.
Thoughtful colour palettes and warm materials to create an inviting, non-clinical atmosphere.
Durable yet elegant finishes that ensure longevity and ease of maintenance.

Design Concept

GCS had recently secured its own premises and needed to refurbish the space to provide the professional, safe and calming environment essential for effective counselling. The charity required three dedicated counselling rooms, a comfortable waiting area, and a functional back office.

We wanted to create an environment that feels both professional and approachable. We focused on layouts and finishes that promote relaxation and emotional comfort, using muted tones, thoughtful lighting and durable materials.

The completed refurbishment has given GCS a dedicated, professional home that supports its vital work. The space now embodies the charity’s ethos of care and respect, creating an environment where clients feel safe and supported.
